Mother Nature Cuts Us A Break

After slamming us with a snow day on Monday Mother Nature made up for it by giving us a warm, if overcast, weekend.  It was VERY nice yesterday with temps into the low 70′s so we decided that we would have a car washing party at my place today and remove the winter scum from our cars.  Many of you have been giving me a rash of shit for not posting an pics of the new Z06 but she’s been so filthy that it wasn’t fair to her to post pics looking like that. We’re going to pick up some of the new Zaino AIO and do another session to put a real shine on the cars, but for now here are some pics of my Z06 and Val’s new Zoom-Zoom.

Hey Heidrun, this is what we did last weekend!

OK so by the time I’m actually publishing this it’s not “last weekend” so I hope Heidrun forgives my lack of timely posting!

Andy & Biggi graciously, if naively, invited the whole gang to spend President’s Day weekend at their place so Val, the kids and Sport could enjoy seeing some snow. We decided to rent a minivan from Enterprise to keep the wear & tear off of Val’s van. After getting it home Val noticed that the inside of the van was not that clean.  In the process of loading it I found out just how not clean, including a soda bottle, juice box, teething ring, some fries and a couple of chocolate chip cookies.  Enterprise will be hearing from me.

The drive was fairly uneventful, though we did hit traffic near Boston(again for me). Sport was very good in the car, except an incident where he notified us of his need to poop by doing a dead-on impersonation of Chewbacca.  Fortunately we’re conversant in Wookie so we figured it out and stopped to take care of that problem. We got to I-495 at just the wrong time again and lost nearly an hour sitting in very slow-moving Friday rush hour traffic. We got to their house close to 6:30, nearly 8 hours door-to-door.  After some pizza for dinner we settled in for an evening of Rock Band and we managed to break 1,000,000 points on a song for the first time under my profile, unlocking the achievement!

Rock On!

Rock On!

Saturday we had a relaxing morning as everyone recovered from the trip and figured out what we would do for the day.  Val & I decided to drag the kids, somewhat reluctantly on their part, out for some sight seeing as they had never been in that part of the country before while Andy & Biggi would head to the store to prepare for Val’s birthday Schnitzelfest. So we loaded up the rental minivan and after a quick stop at the NH Liquor Store for some schnapps and an 18 year old bottle of scotch (present for a retiring customer) it was off to Maine to check out Nubble Light!

OK, so ONE of them is yellow

So I’m weak, what of it, I just couldn’t resist the deals that are out there.  I saw the post on Corvette Forum from Les Stanford Chevy about a leftover ’08 Z06 with the ’09 chrome Spider wheels and started to twitch. Started doing some research, checking used values, etc.  Kerbeck had a used ’09 they had gotten from a GM auction that had 1740 miles on it, but they were asking as much for it as the ’08 new at Les Stanford.  Combine that with the fact that the sales woman from Les Stanford did a great job following up and working with me, I eventually decided that this beauty would be my new ride.

I got an amazing deal on it, nearly $18,000 under the sticker price.  It is such a buyer’s market out there that I eventually came to the conclusion there was no point in buying used.

Now… the wait til it arrives!

Austrian Village 2008

This year’s affair was much more traditional, especially when compared to last year’s Perfect Storm. While we prefered the music of LeCompt, those of us amongst the beer drinking crowd were probably better off that this year’s band, however loud & stereotypical, left us… feeling better on Sunday, shall we say.  The food was very good, as always, and the the music pure cliche German oompah.  We did let ourselves down a bit this year by letting the bar tab actually be LESS than the food tab.  I blame all the ladies, who ordered dessert!

This year’s crowd was Joe & Nat, Rich & Debbie, Jack & Katy, Rich & Christina, Rich’s brother Ed, Bill & Debbie and their neighbor Gina and Val & me. It was great to get everybody together and I’ll take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas!
